Border crinum with trumpet-shaped pink flowers on 3.5-foot scapes. Leaves to 4-feet, arching gracefully over walkways or lawns for an unmistakable tropical garden look. Use this elegant crinum as you would border grass or as a bold highlight in a bed of other shady groundcovers. Looks like a pink Crinum 'Ellen B.' when it sends up its rare flowers. Our starts came from a friend, Julia Yomens, in Brunson, SC. Light requirements: High, light shade to part sun.
Flowers have pointed petals white with a pale blush of pink in the morning. 5 to 6 feet tall in July. Has upright, fountain like foliage that makes a great focal point.
We're not sure what this is as it could be C. moorei or C. powellii but since it isn't exactly either, we call it by where it was found...on Moore Pond. Flowers are shell pink and stand up high above narrow leaves. Flowers start July 4th. Tolerates part shade and thrives right on the edge of ponds. Glossy narrow leaves that are tidy and elegant.
Also know as the Orange River Lily. Flowers most in March, April and May then sporadically though the summer and fall. Flowers are white, pink or striped. Grows well in ditches or wet areas. Beautiful gray leaves curve and twist among other plants.
Flowers are shell pink with richer pink buds and sweet fragrance. Strong, erect stalks, makes a great cut flower. Glossy, kelly green leaves. This crinum flowers more than any other variety, from June, through fall.

Flowers mid-May and early June. Petals elegant and slender, with curving, tongue-like shape. On tall, slender but strong scapes. Leaves are low and fairly compact. That combination makes this a great plant to intermix with shorter, airy perennials or color - these tall flowers would float just above a mass of blue larkspur. Rarely offered, this is a newer selection from Dave Lehmiller in Texas.

Everyone who sees this plant (which is a flower-arranger's dream) wants to grow it but it is still quite hard to come by. Like giant parsley, leaves emerge in mid-Oct. They cover bare dirt with fresh, lush green all winter. Spring flowers are bright yellow, lots of seeds fall for coming years and the plant is gone underground all summer. Light shade suits smyrnium best. Smyrnium is a biennial or short perennial. Sow in place seed packets.
19th Century Charleston's gift to the world, a fasinating new book with my favorite combination of plant information and history. This is the ultimate recognition of 'SHACK BOTANIST' -- people who've collected old plants from forgotten gardens, grown them, compared them, researched them and put all their findings into a full color, indexed, mapped book. Best of all, it's dedicated to our friend and mentor, Ruth Knopf. Each of our copies is signed by Ruth. $17 (plus $3 shipping).
